Destinations

Provence has dozens of world class climbing destinations containing literally thousands of individual crags. Here are just a few suggestions to get you dreaming!

Buoux – for the hard climber

One of the most historic and iconic sport climbing locations in the world. Buoux would be the ideal location to receive coaching sessions for those looking to improve and push their grade.

Buoux is located approximately 1 hour from Marseille airport.

Sainte Victoire – for the active family

The Saint Victoire dominates the beautiful countryside of Provence and the historical city of Aix-en-Provence. Here a family can enjoy the cultural events of the city combined with days learning to climb and walking on the mountain.

Aix-en-Provence is just a 30 minute drive from Marseille Airport.

The Calanques – for the year-round climber

Set between Marseille and Cassis the Calanques is an area with a strong climbing history. Overlooking the Mediterranean sea it is a unique and beautiful place to climb. Climbing is possible nearly all year-round due to the low rainfall (but the wind can be fierce!).

The Calanques offer all grades of climbing from gentle beginners routes to overhanging test pieces and all lengths of route from single-pitch to multi-pitch monsters.

The Calanques are just 45 minutes drive from Marseille airport.

Chateauvert – for those climbing outside for the first time

Chateauvert is a stunning crag set in a wooded valley with a river running through it. The accessibly of the crag and the spread of the grades makes it a great location to learn to climb outside or to learn to lead course.

The Verdon – for the multi-pitch experience

A breathtaking natural wonder and a must-visit destination. With classic routes such as La Demande, a guided trip will be a never-forgotten experience!

“Time well spent in a great atmosphere and stunning surroundings. I’ll be back!”
